I am joining Team MSAA for both the Disney W&D Half Marathon and Full Marathon Weekends with the intention of raising money for those with Multiple Sclerosis.
I will be running a 10K (6.2 miles) & Half Marathon (13.1 miles) back to back in November and then a full Marathon (26.2 miles) in January for a total of 45.5 miles for Multiple Sclerosis. My goal is to raise a total of $4,550. (Your contributions will go towards all race events.)
Last year I ran a couch to half in February and kept running to finish my first marathon. Together we raised just shy of $10,000 for those with Multiple Sclerosis. I was honored and humbled to put in all the hard work that went into doing it. Running a marathon is grueling, but training for one is even harder. You dedicate your time to the care of your hurting body, your weekends to 10+ mile runs, you suffer through the mental torture of hours and hours of running with nothing but your thoughts, you suffer repetitive motion injuries, and the question I got a lot last year was "why would you put yourself through that?" The answer is "because I am able to run." Many people with MS suffer neuro muscular disease progression that does not allow them to walk or run. I have the supreme privilege to run and so I'm going to use it to run for those who can not and remember how blessed I am each time I do.
Every day, people with MS live with the unpredictability of this disease. They may face unbearable fatigue, balance and mobility issues, numbness, difficulty walking or inability to walk, heat sensitivity, blurry vision, or any others in a long list of symptoms. No one knows what causes MS and there is no cure. But with your support, there is help – and hope – for anyone affected by MS.
MSAA improves the lives of tens of thousands of individuals with MS, their families and their care partners each year by providing free, vital programs and services such as: a toll-free Helpline, S.E.A.R.C.H.™ program to assist the MS community with learning about different treatment choices; a mobile phone app, a resource database, mobility equipment distribution, educational programs and activities, MRI funding assistance, and more. Most of all MSAA helps take the burden off of the disease and allows those living with it to be more independent.
Your support helps make the free programs and services MSAA offers possible. Please consider contributing to my fundraising goal and help improve lives today!
