About MSAA

The Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA) is a leading resource for the entire multiple sclerosis (MS) community, improving lives today through vital services and support. MSAA provides direct services and ongoing support to individuals with MS, their families, and their care partners.

Most individuals who develop MS are diagnosed as young adults in the prime of their lives, often in one’s 20’s or 30’s. MS occurs when myelin (the protective covering to the nerves of the brain and spinal cord) along with the nerves themselves, become damaged. This damage causes reduced communication between the brain and nerve pathways.

The symptoms of MS vary greatly and often include physical and emotional issues. Common MS symptoms include visual problems; overwhelming fatigue; difficulty with balance and coordination; various levels of impaired mobility; depression; and cognitive changes, affecting memory and decision-making abilities. Many experts estimate that 2.5 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with MS.
