Welcome to my Personal Challenge Swim for MS!
I found this Swim for MS challenge after searching for information about MS. I was diagnosed with the disease in September 2017 and was trying to educate myself and find support.
I'm not one that likes to exercise but I had to do therapy in a pool a few years back and felt the best I had in years. I figured this would be good for me, so I signed up online for the individual challenge. I sent my registration in... I set a fundraising goal of $250... and then I posted it on Facebook to let my friends know I was doing it, in hopes to find a swim buddy or two.
The only issue? I didn't have a pool to swim in. I was also hoping someone knew of a pool locally that had good hours for open swim times. Fortunately, I found out about a new wellness center that was opening by me. It opened in January and has 3 pools that I can use. I also hit the $250 goal in just a few days, so I raised that goal to $500! Then, after a few more months, I hit THAT goal and raised it to $750!
Along with MS, I have Menier's Disease and struggle with fatique on a daily basis. There are days I have a hard time just getting out of bed. I set the end date of this challenge for December 2018, knowing this is definitely going to be a challenge for me to get to the pool. However, I'm determined to get there! I'll keep updating this page and I'll keep raising the fundraising goal throughout the year!
I'm a USAF Veteran and am very fortunate to have healthcare coverage after being medically discharged from the service in 1994. Funds raised here support many programs and services offered by the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America for those in need. I'll do what I can to support them.
Please consider supporting my Swim for MS and making a difference in the lives of people with MS.
Thank you and be well! :)
My Swim for MS Information
About my swim:
This is a personal challenge for myself to wake up and start taking better care of myself. I set up this challenge on the first day of my treatment... my first injection of Copaxone. It's time to change how I'm living my life!
Start Date of My Event: 10/23/17
End Date of My Event: 12/31/18
Why I am participating:
I've recently been diagnosed with MS and am fortunate that they have found it now during the early stages of this disease. There are some things I can't control but there are other things that I CAN control. Being more active is one thing I can control!
